Polaria mirror cabinets to be featured on one of the world’s largest cruise ships

Polaria Oy is participating in the project for the fifth Icon Class cruise ship being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard. Under an agreement with cabin manufacturer Piikkio Works Oy, Polaria will supply bathroom furniture for the ship’s crew cabins.

The fifth Icon Class cruise ship for Royal Caribbean is part of a series of some of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced passenger ships. Built at the Meyer Turku shipyard, the vessels are major projects for the Finnish maritime industry, involving an extensive network of Finnish companies.

“We are delighted that Piikkio Works selected Polaria for this project. Trust has to be earned in projects of this scale, which makes this especially meaningful to us. We are proud to contribute to such a significant maritime industry project,” says Timo Karhula, CEO of Polaria Oy.

Designed and manufactured in Finland, Polaria’s steel bathroom furniture is developed for demanding environments. Its moisture-resistant material, long service life and ease of maintenance make it a reliable solution for crew cabin bathrooms.

“Crew bathroom furniture is in daily use, so it needs to perform reliably and flawlessly year after year. We are proud that our solutions meet these requirements and will be part of such a significant international project,” Karhula says.

The delivery further strengthens Polaria’s position as a manufacturer of steel bathroom furniture for the maritime industry. Polaria presents marine bathroom solutions at SMM Hamburg 2026

Polaria will participate in SMM Hamburg 2026, held from 1–4 September, the world’s leading maritime industry event. Polaria will exhibit at its own stand as part of the Finland Pavilion, where Finnish maritime companies showcase their expertise to an international audience.

Held every two years, SMM brings together shipyards, shipbuilders, designers, system suppliers and shipowners from around the world. The event provides an opportunity to discuss upcoming projects and present solutions that meet the demands of modern shipbuilding.

At the exhibition, Polaria will present its Marine range of bathroom furniture, specifically designed for crew cabins and other demanding marine environments.

Durable solutions for demanding conditions

In marine environments, bathroom furniture must meet significantly higher requirements than in conventional construction projects. High humidity, continuous use, limited space and long maintenance intervals place special demands on the products.

Polaria’s mirror cabinets, washbasin cabinets and storage solutions are designed to meet these exact needs. Nanoceramic-coated, powder-coated steel structures offer excellent resistance to moisture and wear. The furniture is delivered fully assembled, and its long service life helps reduce maintenance needs throughout the lifecycle. Steel surfaces are also easy to maintain and clean, supporting high hygiene standards and simplifying daily upkeep in crew areas.

The compact design of the furniture helps maximize the efficient use of limited space in crew cabins without compromising usability or storage capacity. Practical storage solutions, high-quality materials and carefully designed details ensure reliable performance even in demanding daily use.

“Crew members spend long periods on board, so the functionality of the bathroom truly matters in everyday life. Our goal is to provide solutions that are practical, durable and easy to install as part of shipbuilding projects.”

Designed for project needs

In shipbuilding projects, every detail contributes to the overall result. In addition to standard product ranges, Polaria offers project-specific solutions when required by the needs of the vessel.

Nearly 60 years of experience in manufacturing moisture-resistant bathroom furniture, combined with Finnish design and production expertise, is reflected in products that combine functionality, long service life and reliable delivery. The furniture is manufactured in Finland, and its design takes into account both demanding marine conditions and efficient installation requirements.

“In the maritime industry, reliability is the most important expectation from a partner. We aim to be a partner that can meet both current and future project needs with high-quality, long-lasting and responsibly manufactured solutions.”
